The “Societal Computing” research group headed by Prof. Ingmar Weber (Alexander von Humboldt Professor for AI) was formed at Saarland University in the 2022/23 winter semester.
Societal computing includes
(i) Computing of society, i.e. the computational study of social phenomena, and
(ii) Computing for society, i.e. the use of computer-based methods for supporting social development.
The Societal Computing Group works closely with various stakeholders – including the United Nations, various non-governmental organizations and humanitarian aid organizations.
Collaboration with these partners often serves as a source for research questions, helping to create impact that goes beyond publications.
Associated with our group is the Interdisciplinary Institute for Societal Computing (I2SC). To find out more about our research, upcoming events and much more, please go to www.i2sc.net
